About Joshua

Joshua A. Bruner is a writer and debut novelist living in rural Connecticut, where he recently moved with his husband and infant son. After 15+ years in New York City, he’s settling into their quirky 1890 house full of creaks, charm, and questionable light switches. Joshua was born in suburban Dallas and raised by a single mom—an upbringing that closely mirrors the world of his protagonist, Shea. His work explores themes of identity, misrecognition, and the quiet courage it takes to be seen.

The first in his family to attend college, Joshua holds degrees in English and Religion from Yale and Southwestern University. With a background in communications, he’s committed to publishing stories that blend emotional resonance with a sharp, literary voice. He’s currently training as an EMT for his town’s all-volunteer Fire Department, listens to more Townes Van Zandt than is probably healthy, and—regardless of his actual age—has always been 16 going on 60.
